Thanks to all blood donors!
For this year's World Blood Donor Day, the WHO is focusing on all blood donors and those who want to become blood donors with the slogan "Give Blood and make the world a healthier place". We would also like to thank everyone who took part in our blood donation contest and helped to maintain the blood supply in Switzerland. The winners of the competition will be contacted directly.

But the end of the asep blood donation contest is not the end of the need for blood! Especially now, when life outside the home is resumed after the lockdown, there are more traffic accidents and operations, which greatly increases the need for blood donations. Inform yourself at your regional blood donation services and go donate!

We are delighted to share with you first access to the WHO Academy’s new COVID-19 mobile learning app that is targeted specifically to health workers! This app was created in direct response to the online survey of health workers conducted by the WHO Academy in March and April, to which we received more than 20,000 responses – many thanks to those of you who responded. The WHO Academy app is available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store and provides mobile access to the WHO COVID-19 knowledge resources, including up-to-the-minute guidance, tools, training, and virtual workshops to support health workers in caring for patients infected by COVID-19 and protect themselves as they do their critical work. It provides detailed information and tools addressing key areas of concerns for health workers responding to the outbreak:
• Infection prevention control
• Case management
• Use of personal protective equipment
• Staff safety and health
• Risk communication & community engagement #whoacademy

This year, asep is holding a blood donation contest calling on students to donate blood to save lives. Unfortunately we had some starting difficulties due to the corona virus. Besides the online lectures, helping out in the pharmacies/hospitals and talking to your loved ones on the phone, please don't forget those who are dependent on YOUR BLOOD.

We encourage you to donate blood: save lives with very little effort a blood donation takes only 45 minutes, and one donation can save up to three lives! Encourage your friends to donate blood – donating together is twice as fun!

To participate send us a picture of your blood donation card (with date and stamp of the blood donation service) before the 13th of June 2020 at 23h59 and help us to maintain the blood supply in Switzerland (link in bio). An unforgettable evening with delicacies and drinks, sponsored by Zeller AG, awaits the 10 randomly drawn winners. Believe us, you do not want to miss this

IPSF will hold a global COVID-19 campaign from 11.05.2020-25.05.2020!
The campaign aims to educate the members on the impact of COVID-19 on all five of the ipsf regional offices. Each region will host a 3 day take over, where they will inform members on how COVID-19 is affecting their regions, initiate a challenge, discuss a particular topic and they will also hold some form of activity, whether that be a webinar, video interviews or training.

Clean health care is one of the most urgent challenges identified by the United Nations, and one that the world community will have to tackle over the next 10 years in our race to meet the SDG deadline. That is why clean care, including best practices in hand hygiene, and the central role that nurses and midwives play in it, is the focus of this year's May 5 campaign.

We wanted to thank all nurses and midwives for their crucial contribution to strengthening high-quality healthcare systems and for their work in ensuring the safety of our patients, families and colleagues, particularly during the COVID 19 pandemic, by preventing healthcare-associated infections. Health and medical professionals agree on the fact that vaccines are one of the major achievements in the 20th century, but not everyone agrees.

In the past few years, opposition to vaccinations has risen. Concerned parents are opting to forego vaccinations.

This has resulted in a surge of infectious diseases that had been previously or nearly eradicated which is a major public health concern.

Parents seem to be most concerned about the MMR vaccine because of the rumor that it might cause autism.
Multiple studies with large samples have shown that the MMR vaccine does not cause autism.
Most of the concerns that create opposition to vaccination are nothing more than misconceptions caused by misinformation.

Unfortunately, the decision not to vaccinate oneself or one’s children doesn’t just affect them. The large number of people refusing vaccines has led to the reemergence of infectious diseases in areas where they had been eradicated or nearly gone.

Measles, a potentially deadly yet preventable disease was declared eradicated in the United States in 2002. But in 2014, there were over 600 reported cases.
